NASA Dryden Flight Center
Environmental, Health, and Safety Support Services
ISSi provides Environmental, Safety, and Health Services to NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC). ISSi staff participates in the environmental programs including hazardous materials/ hazardous waste management, chemical crib, web-based applications and development, pollution prevention, environmental compliance, and environmental information systems. ISSi staff participates in all external environmental inspections and audits including Environmental Functional Reviews and prepares corrective action plans as needed.
For the pollution prevention program, ISSi staff aids in the identification and assessment of pollution prevention opportunities in chemical usage, process modification, equipment maintenance, recycling, and affirmative procurement.
ISSi supports the industrial hygiene program at DFRC including the identification prevention, control and elimination of safety hazards in the work place. Tasks involve assuring implementation of the Industrial/ Workplace safety program including emergency preparedness and response. In addition ISSi supports the accident and injury prevention program, conducts accident/ mishap investigations, and participates in pre-construction reviews.
Sandia National Laboratories
Technical Support Services
For Sandia National Laboratories, ISSi staff are fully integrated members of the team responsible for planning, implementing, analyzing and reporting the results of scientific and engineering investigations of the U.S. civilian radioactive waste repository. Our staff coordinates with scientists and engineers from Lawrence Berkeley, Los Alamos, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, the U.S. Geological Survey, and numerous private contractors.
Bechtel SAIC
Technical Support Services
As a small business teammate to Bechtel-SAIC (BSC), ISSi provides senior technical staff to all aspects of the Yucca Mountain Project for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management. ISSi scientists and engineers have had a key role in the analysis and documentation of the suitability of the Yucca Mountain site to host a repository for spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. ISSi staff manages and implements activities necessary to obtain required regulatory approvals for the repository, including development of a license application for submittal to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. These include program planning, research, and technical and regulatory evaluations. ISSi staff analyzes data collected through an extensive site characterization program, and support the design and engineering analysis of the disposal facility to ensure it will safely isolate waste. All work is performed in accordance with the procedures and protocols defined by a rigorous Quality Assurance program.
ISSi tasks include:
Technical support services in science and engineering, software quality assurance, database management and verification, analyses of data quality, management of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other database management tools
Provide expertise to assure technical adequacy and regulatory compliance, issue analysis, training, and data quality and quality assurance evaluations to client
Perform subsurface modeling for contaminant release
Manage a broad range of research and analysis activities including analyses of data quality and collections methods and quality assurance protocols for hydrologic, geochemical, and geologic data
Management of Geographic Information Systems and other database management tools used to compile geologic and hydrologic maps, and an integrated geologic site model
