Site Characterization, Sampling and Monitoring

ISSi’s integrated teams of geoscientists and compliance specialists are familiar with all aspects of site characterization including sampling and monitoring. Detailed site assessments and characterization are needed to ensure that the appropriate cleanup strategies are identified and implemented. Sometimes a cleanup strategy may include natural attenuation and long term monitoring; sometimes active cleanup is needed. Regardless of the appropriate methodology, a strong close relationship with the regulators is needed to ensure proper site closure. ISSi provides all aspects of site characterization including technical expertise and regulatory negotiation.

ISSi experience includes:

  • Site investigation and remediation activities such as sampling and analysis of soil, soil vapor, sediment, surface water, and groundwater.
  • Air monitoring and air sampling for selected metals such as chromium as well as particulates, asbestos, solvent vapors and other contaminants.
  • Conducting a long term monitoring program with approximately 100 groundwater-monitoring wells require sampling 1 to 4 times a year for fuels, solvents, PCBs and lead.
  • Providing senior program scientists to review and evaluate regional and superfund reports, corrective action plans, sampling and analysis plans, and other technical documents to ensure regulatory agency compliance as well as technical proficiency.
  • Designing sample and analysis programs to provide site characterization and ensure effective cleanup.
  • Installation and program design for approximately 10 to 20 soil borings and/or monitoring wells per year. Shallow soil sampling is required at various locations where releases occurred during the year using various sampling methods.
  • Designing sampling programs for 10 facility closures that included wind tunnels, office structures, storage tanks, etc. Sampling plan included multi-media such as concrete, soil, metal surfaces, cooling material, etc.
