Storm Water Management
Storm water management, from an environmental standpoint, is critical to the health of our bays, estuaries, and lakes. ISSi’s services in storm water planning and management services are directed toward integrating the control of rainfall-runoff processes and their effects into a single program to ensure balanced utilization of watershed resources for ecological and development goals. We evaluate and understand runoff behavior and the resulting storm water flow effects on the ecological and human systems in both natural and urban environments. We characterize the quantity and quality of waters that move through a watershed as a basis for identifying options for effective management of the water resource. We then develop and implement strategies and programs to improve flow behavior and water quality, and provide for the effective use of the available water resources.

ISSi experts in biology, ecology, hydrology, and hydraulics combine characterization and evaluation of storm water runoff processes with engineering design of appropriate systems. With the changing paradigms of storm water management, our focus today is on low-impact development that serves to minimize runoff by engineering systems that mimic pre-development conditions for storm water flow.

ISSi experience includes:

Using GIS and hydrology software to understand and map storm water flows in a watershed.
Setting up, calibrating and monitoring sampling and flow measurement equipment.
Sampling and analysis of storm water during rain events.
Hydrological modeling of storm water and determination of peak flows and contaminant loads.
Design and construction of engineered systems to manage, treat, and store storm water
generated by small facilities to large campuses.
Preparing annual stormwater reports in accordance with regulations.
